A subject number identifies a person within the jail system. A booking number identifies one intake event. Keeping those two numbers separate helps when someone has more than one Merced County booking. The portal can also display bond, court-date, charge, disposition, and release fields, though the presence of a charge there does not establish a conviction.

Merced Online Reports Are Different
The Sheriff's Online Reporting portal creates new reports for qualifying non-emergency events. It is not an old arrest-record search. Eligible categories include lost property, specified theft, vandalism, fraud, identity theft, harassing calls, vehicle tampering, and other listed incidents. A user receives a temporary case number, and a deputy reviews the report before a permanent number is assigned.

Jurisdiction matters before filing. The county page routes city incidents to Atwater, Dos Palos, Gustine, Livingston, Los Banos, or Merced police, and state-highway incidents to CHP Merced Communications. Reports with the wrong agency can delay a useful search because the record remains with the office that took the incident.

A roster is not a lifetime Merced County arrest history. Release, transfer, processing, or a different spelling can affect a search result. An absent entry does not prove that no arrest occurred. For older events, use the arresting agency's report channel and the Superior Court file if prosecutors filed a case. Merced Arrest Fingerprint Review
Fingerprints connect a local Merced County arrest cycle to the California Department of Justice repository. California does not provide a general public name-search portal for another person's state summary history. A California resident reviews their own record by using DOJ form BCIA 8016RR and Live Scan.
The Sheriff's Live Scan service is available at 777 W. 22nd Street, Merced, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for walk-ins and appointments. A valid unexpired photo ID and completed form are required. The county charges a $28 rolling fee, plus DOJ fees determined at service.
This subject-only process is the proper way to inspect the statewide fingerprint record and check whether local dispositions reached DOJ.
Merced Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest reflects law-enforcement action based on probable cause or a warrant. A conviction requires a guilty plea, verdict, or finding in court. The two events are created by different offices and can end differently. Merced County booking data may remain as an artifact even if prosecutors decline charges or a court dismisses the case.

Note: A Merced County arrest is not proof of guilt, and some bookings never lead to a filed charge or conviction.

Probation is also a court-imposed sentence after conviction, not proof supplied by the original arrest record. The Merced County Probation Department operates county adult and juvenile services.
